This statement explains the standard we aim for, what we have done so far, what we know still needs work, and how to tell us about a problem.
Our commitment
Accessibility is part of how we build this website, not an extra. It reflects values that matter to us: treating people fairly, honestly and with respect. We design and check every page with accessibility in mind, and we will keep improving as the website grows.

The standard we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. WCAG is the international standard for accessible websites, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Level AA is the level that most accessibility laws and policies refer to.
Where we are today
Based on our own testing, we believe most of this website meets WCAG 2.2 Level AA. This is a self-assessment, not an independent audit, and there are some known limitations. For these reasons, we describe the website as partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA for now. We do not claim full conformance.
Laws and guidance we follow
Our target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We also use accessibility laws and standards from around the world as a guide. We are not saying that any particular law applies to us, or that we meet a specific legal requirement. We aim for the standard these laws point to because it is the right thing to do.
- WCAG 2.2 Level AA: the international standard we design and test this website against.
- European Accessibility Act: the European Union law that sets accessibility requirements for many products and services, including online shopping.
- Equality Act 2010: the United Kingdom law that expects organisations to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled people are not put at a disadvantage.
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): the United States law that protects people from discrimination because of disability.
- Human rights and equality laws in many other countries, which protect people from discrimination because of disability.
Accessibility features
Here is what we have built into the website to make it easier to use.
- Keyboard access. You can use the website with a keyboard alone, including the menus, forms, cookie settings and the Amana assistant.
- Visible focus. A clear outline shows which link, button or field you are on.
- Skip link. A "Skip to main content" link, at the start of every page, lets you jump past the menu.
- Clear structure. Pages use headings in a logical order, and landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer. Screen-reader users can use these to move around quickly. Each page also tells your browser which language it is written in.
- Text alternatives. Images that carry meaning have text descriptions (alt text). Purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Colour contrast. We have checked text and interface colours against the WCAG Level AA contrast requirements.
- Resizable text and reflow. You can enlarge text with your browser's zoom. The layout adapts to small screens and high zoom levels, so you should not need to scroll sideways to read.
- Reduced motion. If you have turned on "reduce motion" in your device settings, we switch off non-essential animation.
- Accessible forms. Every form field has a visible label. Error messages explain what to fix, are linked to the field they relate to, and are announced to screen readers. Messages confirming that a form was sent are announced too.
- Accessible chat assistant. Amana can be opened, used and closed with a keyboard. New replies are announced to screen readers. Suggested questions let you ask common questions without typing.
- Ready for right-to-left languages. The layout is built to support right-to-left languages, such as Arabic, if we add them in future.
Technologies this website relies on
This website relies on HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WAI-ARIA to work with your browser and any assistive technology you use. Some features need JavaScript, including the cookie settings, the form checks and Amana.
We aim to support current versions of major web browsers and assistive technologies.
How we tested
We tested the website ourselves. This is a self-assessment, not an audit by an independent third party. Our testing included:
- Automated checks: we ran axe-core accessibility checks on every page.
- Keyboard testing: we worked through the website using only a keyboard, checking that everything can be reached and used, and that focus is always visible.
- Colour contrast calculations: we calculated contrast ratios for text and interface colours in both themes, against the WCAG Level AA requirements.
- Screen-reader spot checks: we checked key pages and features with a screen reader.
Automated tools find only some accessibility problems. That is why we also test by hand, and why your feedback matters.
Known limitations
We know about the following limitations. We will update this statement as we resolve them.
- Placeholder content. Some details, such as our address, contact information and the names of our service providers, are still being finalised. Until then, some pages show placeholder text in square brackets. The placeholders are ordinary text, so screen readers read them out.
- Form service not yet selected. Our forms will send messages through a third-party form-processing service that we have not yet chosen. When we choose one, we will check that any part of it you see or use is accessible. Until it is connected, our forms tell you clearly that messages cannot be delivered yet.
- Logo image. Our logo is a raster (pixel-based) image rather than a scalable vector graphic. Its name is available to screen readers, but the logo may look less sharp at very high zoom levels, and it may not adapt to high-contrast modes.
- Amana's understanding. Amana is rule-based and may not understand every question, however it is worded. If it cannot help, please use our contact form, and a person on our team will reply.
